In a scathing attack, former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry has accused senior lawyer and founding member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Hamid Khan, of damaging the party. Speaking to media persons outside the anti-terrorism court in Lahore on Saturday, Chaudhry alleged that Khan does not want people in the party who might overshadow him and claimed that the genuine party activists currently facing cases are the ones being targeted.
Chaudhry also criticized the statement issued by the federal minister for defense, Khawaja Asif, regarding Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, terming it inappropriate. He warned that the operation has become controversial even before its start and emphasized that the government cannot move forward without taking the opposition into confidence.
Furthermore, Chaudhry claimed that the government is planning to introduce amendments regarding the transfers of judges, which he believes would negatively impact the judicial system. He cautioned against any attempts to interfere with the judiciary’s independence.
It is worth noting that during a recent interview with a private channel, Hamid Khan had accused Fawad Chaudhry of leaving the PTI when it was facing a tough situation. Khan questioned Chaudhry’s right to rejoin the party, stating, “Now, how can he rejoin the party? Chaudhry has no right to return to the party.”The ongoing feud between Chaudhry and Khan highlights the internal divisions within the PTI, with both leaders trading accusations and questioning each other’s loyalty to the party. The allegations come at a time when the PTI is facing legal challenges and its leadership is under scrutiny.
Chaudhry’s warning against judicial interference also raises concerns about the government’s intentions regarding the judiciary. The proposed amendments to the transfer of judges, if true, could be seen as an attempt to exert control over the judicial system, which would be a concerning development for the rule of law and the separation of powers.
As the political landscape in Pakistan continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how the PTI will navigate these internal conflicts and external challenges. The party’s ability to maintain unity and focus on its core objectives will be crucial in determining its future trajectory.
