Steve Bannon Directed to Begin Prison Term by July 1 for Contempt of Congress

Steve Bannon was found guilty of disrespecting Congress in 2022 because he didn’t hand over documents or testify to the House committee that investigated the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol. He got a four-month prison sentence.

The judge overseeing the case, Carl Nichols, had delayed Bannon’s sentence while Bannon appealed the guilty verdict. However, last month, a panel of judges from the DC Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Bannon’s arguments against the case. Prosecutors then asked Judge Nichols to send Bannon to prison right away.

On Thursday, Judge Nichols said he didn’t think there was any reason left to delay Bannon’s sentence, given the appeals court’s decision. Even though Bannon plans to keep appealing, the judge, who was appointed by Trump, decided he could lift the delay on Bannon’s prison term.
