Popular television actress Hina Khan recently revealed that she has been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. In a heartfelt social media post, the 36-year-old star reassured her fans, known as “Hinaholics,” that she is undergoing treatment and remains determined to overcome this challenge.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women globally, though it can also occur in men. Hina’s diagnosis serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of breast cancer awareness, early detection, and staying positive during treatment.
In her statement, Hina wrote, “Despite this challenging diagnosis, I want to reassure everyone that I am doing well. I am strong, determined and truly committed to overcoming this disease. My treatment has already begun, and I am ready to do everything necessary to emerge from this even stronger.
“Stage 3 breast cancer falls under the category of “locally advanced” breast cancer, meaning the cancer has spread beyond the initial tumor but hasn’t reached distant organs yet. While this diagnosis can be daunting, many women with stage 3 breast cancer respond well to treatment and can live long, healthy lives.
According to Dr. Niti Raizada, Senior Director – Medical Oncology and Hemato Oncology at Fortis Hospitals in Bengaluru, in a stage 3 diagnosis, the tumor is larger than 5 cm (about the size of a small lime) and has spread to 1-3 lymph nodes or surrounding tissues like chest wall muscles or skin. This can cause changes in breast appearance, lumps, and discomfort.
The treatment approach for stage 3 breast cancer is typically multifaceted and tailored to the individual’s specific case. It often involves neoadjuvant chemotherapy if breast conservation is planned, along with personalized treatment based on tumor characteristics like ER, PR, and Her2neu. Radiation therapy is also frequently required.
Hina Khan’s message conveyed strength and positivity, and she requested privacy while navigating this journey. However, she also expressed appreciation for support and encouragement from her fans and well-wishers.
The actress rose to fame with her portrayal of Akshara in the long-running soap opera “Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai” and has participated in reality shows like “Bigg Boss” and “Khatron Ke Khiladi.” Her diagnosis has received an outpouring of support from fellow celebrities and her fans.
Hina Khan’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of regular breast self-exams, mammograms, and seeking prompt medical attention for any changes in breast health. With early detection and advancements in treatment, many women with stage 3 breast cancer can overcome this challenge and live fulfilling lives.
