The Bank of Punjab Holds Analyst Briefing, Reports Strong Profitability and Strategic Growth

The Bank of Punjab (BOP) recently held an in-depth analyst briefing in Karachi for institutional investors and research analysts, offering a transparent view into its ongoing transformation journey. Led by President & CEO Zafar Masud, the management team detailed BOP’s financial performance for the nine months ending September 30, 2025, highlighting a 37% rise in profit after tax compared to the same period last year. This upturn, they explained, is driven by robust core income growth, disciplined cost management, and improving asset quality.

During the session, the team also reported a remarkable 156% year-on-year increase in operating profit, while net interest income surged by 91%, owing to a favorable shift in deposit mix toward low-cost current accounts. As Zafar Masud put it: “Our direction is clear: a stronger balance sheet, a more efficient digital-first operating model, and a sharper focus on priority sectors that directly support Pakistan’s economic agenda.” The management underscored proactive provisioning, with only 0.06% of the loans book reflecting actual credit slippage, even as the bank accounted for expected credit losses.

The briefing also addressed concerns about the impact of the recent floods, revealing that just PKR 650 million of BOP’s exposure lies in flood-affected regions. Importantly, management reassured stakeholders that this exposure is largely secured via government guarantees or collateral. Beyond risk management, analysts were updated on BOP’s long-term capital markets and SME strategies, its repricing of high-cost term deposits (which has significantly lowered cost of funds), and ongoing branch expansion — including plans to add 100 Islamic branches by 2027. With this comprehensive update, BOP reinforced its narrative of resilience, operational transformation, and sustainable growth, while committing to maintaining strong dialogue with its investor and analyst community.
