Summer Skincare & Sun Protection

As the summer months approach, it’s crucial to revamp your skincare routine to protect your skin from the harsh effects of heat, humidity, and intense sun exposure.

Cleanse and Moisturize

Start by using a gentle, foam-based cleanser to wash your face once a day and after exercise. This will remove dirt and excess oil without stripping your skin.  Follow up with a lightweight, water-based moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated.

Wear Sunscreen Daily

Sunscreen is the most important step in any summer skincare routine. Apply a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to your face, neck, and any exposed skin every day, even on cloudy days.  Reapply every 2 hours, or more often if swimming or sweating.

Exfoliate Moderately

Increased sweating and sunscreen use can clog pores, so incorporate a physical or chemical exfoliant into your routine 1-2 times per week to slough off dead skin cells.  But don’t over-exfoliate, as this can irritate skin.

Protect with Clothing

In addition to sunscreen, wear protective clothing like long sleeves, pants, hats, and sunglasses to shield your skin from UV rays. Look for garments with a UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) rating.

Nourish from Within

Eat a diet rich in antioxidants, hydrate well, and consider taking supplements like vitamin C to support healthy, glowing skin from the inside out. By following these tips, you can enjoy the summer sun while keeping your skin healthy, protected, and radiant.
