Huia bird used to be in New Zealand and that bird has been extinct. Now its feather has been sold and set the world record of being the most expensive feather ever sold. The feather has been sold for NZD$46,521 ($28,417).
According to Webb’s Auction house:
Previously, the record was $3000 for a feather which was of same specie, and now the record has been broken by 450 %.
This bird was very sacred for Maori people, there feather was often worn on head by the chiefs and their families and they also use it as their traditional gift.
The feather is registered as a taonga tūturu under a system to protect Maori made objects. Only collectors who had license in the system were allowed to purchase it, and it can not leave the country without permission from the Ministry of Culture and Heritage.
