Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin supported using more seized assets from drug cases to help pay for rehabilitating drug addicts.
Mr. Somsak, speaking on Tuesday, mentioned changes he made to narcotic laws while he chaired the Justice Ministry. These changes aimed to improve how assets are seized.
He explained that the old laws were not active enough in seizing assets, resulting in only 20 million baht each year going to the Narcotics Control Board’s drug fund, which should have been much higher.
“We need to shift to a more proactive approach by focusing on seizing assets and offering rewards for information,” he said.
