In a significant development, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court on Thursday granted bail to two female activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, while extending the physical remand of PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan and nine other accused arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Shabbir Bhatti announced the reserved verdict on the FIA’s plea, granting a three-day physical remand of Raoof Hasan and the other accused. The court also heard the bail application of the two women activists, who were arrested from the PTI Secretariat..During the proceedings, the FIA prosecutor argued that the women were employed when a campaign against state institutions was launched. He claimed that the women worked in the media cell and that granting them bail would affect the case.
However, the defense lawyer, Ali Bukhari, challenged the prosecutor’s claims, stating that the evidence presented in the report did not support the allegations against the women. Bukhari emphasized that the court should consider the character of the women, Farhat and Iqra, based on the evidence in the file.
After hearing the arguments, the court granted bail to the two women activists, ordering them to submit surety bonds worth Rs. 50,000 each. This decision was seen as a victory for the PTI, as it highlighted the lack of substantial evidence against the women.
The extension of Raoof Hasan’s physical remand, on the other hand, suggests that the investigation against him and the other accused is ongoing. The FIA will have three more days to gather further evidence and interrogate the suspects.
The case has garnered significant attention, with the PTI claiming that the arrests are part of a political vendetta against the party. The court’s decision to grant bail to the women activists and extend the remand for Raoof Hasan is likely to have far-reaching implications for the ongoing political tensions in the country.
